Tutorial - Microsoft Office

If you are looking for a good tutorial, Microsoft office is probably not the best place to start your search.  Although the product does contain some useful help functionality, you will quickly realize that you will be better served by a formal training course that will walk you through all of the most important functions and features of each individual program so you can be as effective as possible when it comes time to use it.

Tutorial: Microsoft Office Help Files

Ok, so if you are really in a pinch and you just need to find a little helpful information on how to accomplish something, then you might be able to get by with the integrated help files in Microsoft Office.

For whatever product you are using, the fastest way to access the help menu is by pressing the F1 key.  This will bring up an index where you can type in your question or browse the topics to find information about what you are looking for.

Tutorial: Microsoft Office Training Options

You will quickly discover that using the help system is not the best way to teach yourself Microsoft office.  If you are a complete novice with no experience, or even if you have been using the software for years and just want to get to a more advanced skill level, you may find it useful to take a formal classroom training course or buy a course on CD.

Classroom training has some benefits, such as personalized instruction and the ability to ask questions right away as they arise.  However you may not be able to commit to a full week off work to drive to a training center and sit for five days in a classroom.  Classroom training is also not cheap, usually costing thousands of dollars for a one week course.

Instead, many people opt for the convenience of an electronically delivered tutorial.  Microsoft Office is actually very easy to learn when you have some hands on training walking you through all of the basics.  Courses that are delivered online or on CD’s that are shipped to your home or office are often a great alternative to classroom training because they are so much less expensive and can be completed at your own pace.

Tutorial: Microsoft Office Advanced Topics

If you are already familiar with Office then there may be some advanced topics that you are interested in getting trained on.  For example, did you know there are ways to automate repetitive tasks in Word, Excel and Access?  You may have heard of macros, which allow you to record certain keystrokes and then play them back automatically whenever you need them.  There is also an integrated programming language called VBA, which allows you to actually write the code for the macros by hand rather than being limited to recording your keystrokes.

As you can see, there are a lot of things to consider when looking for a good Microsoft office tutorial.  You may find the help files included in the product useful for very basic questions, but for the most part it is more beneficial to get some actual formal training.  Find yourself a good classroom course or buy an electronic course on CD’s, and you will be able to significantly speed up your learning process.
